STXi Partners with Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative
We are excited to announce that STXi has partnered with Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative to conduct a photovoice community project!
Recently, thanks to a guest speaker we hosted at our team meeting, we were made aware of the dire circumstances many families in the Valley face, especially children. We learned that, according to the Texas Center for Public Priorities,
30% of children in the RGV lack consistent access to adequate food
More than half of RGV kids live with one or more parents who is an immigrant
The rate of child poverty in the RGV is nearly twice as high as the statewide rate
We were shocked to hear these statistics. We realized that this is an issue that is often overlooked. We immediately knew that we wanted to get involved, because hunger is a real issue that is affecting our very own peers.
Our goal is to campaign for children who face hunger and who are unable to stand up for themselves. We want to tell stories that are more than facts and numbers in hopes that we will humanize the issue and influence community leaders to make a change.
This is why we need you. If you are interested in learning more and participating in our initiative, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by May 25th to be included in our next meeting.
